Closing Of The Bones Ceremony
Closing of the Bones is one of the most sacred and intentional services I offer, that I feel so deeply in MY bones to hold for all women everywhere. It is a rite of passage. The heart of this ceremony is a traditional postpartum ritual that I’ve come to deeply respect for its power to promote healing and restoration. During this ritual, your birthing body is gently and lovingly wrapped, helping to energetically and physically seal your body after the opening experience of birth. This practice not only supports your body’s natural healing process but also brings a sense of balance and grounding, helping you feel whole again in your new role as a mother.

Frequently asked questions to get you more familiar with this ceremony:
How many weeks postpartum does closing of the bones take place?
The Closing of the bones is a rite of passage. the ideal time depends on the body, its needs and when one feels ready to receive. This ceremony can take place any time after birth & I believe every mother should have the opportunity to receive, and not just mothers to the physical. Traditionally it is repeated 5-6 times within the 40 sacred days following birth. Within the first two months: The body is still soft and open to care — it is sensitive and needs gentle touch and space for healing. After two months, there may still be physiological work to do, and the body may not be fully recovered. Five to ten years after birth: There may still be blockages and difficult memories to share and release
I work with all stories — 2 weeks postpartum to 33 years of being mother, quiet birth, difficult birth, cesarean, abortion, serrogacy, adoption, miscarriage & angel baby mothers
Everyone deserves to be seen, heard and held
What does a typical ceremony entail?
Typically there is a gathering in a sacred space, with just the witnessed and the ceremonalist and/or a few close womenfolk Before entering the scared space there is always an offering to be smudged with holy wood or sage. There is time to sit in community, call in to your guides, set an intention, speak your story, Meditate, offer prayer, pull cards or crystals and light a candle or two. There is always intentional conversation & purposeful listening so that all that is needed to feel safe has a place to be heard and seen. Gently moving into the closing where whoever is being wrapped lays on top of the rebozos and guided into breath or mediation -There could be one person who cradles, wraps and tucks or there could be multiple people helping to cradle, wrap and tuck the meridians, the spaces, the bones moving from the head to the feet. At each knot there could be an offering of prayer, words of affirmation, reiki, music, song of just the laying of hands. Once the body is fully wrapped there is time for silence, song, spoken word, drumming or meditation. After the unraveling, the rebirth— there is time for integration, journaling, silence or conversation. Every ceremony is unique & intuitively aligned to serve the women receiving. Some ceremonialist like to end in mediation, others with abanyanga massage or foot bath, full bath or even journaling — some like to start in this way too
Can this be done in clients home?
Ceremony is anywhere that feels sacred to the one being witnessed. Within the home truly brings a sense of peace in the body. This option is for those who want to be surrounded by their adornments, have the ability to set an alter space in their home to keep and integration that can be extended past the ceremony on their own time with no need to entire the physical world until they’re ready. However, sacred space can look like anything. Alternative space such as gardens, herb farms, flowers patches, woodland space or in a space such as a yoga studio or office space that is available to you are other options are offered & honored — these spaces can be transformed and hold just as much peace as the home. Within an alternative space, brings a sense of sacred security and for those who wish to utilize a space to hold & witness the rebirth. Those who wish to keep the energy where the ceremony was held. Those that would prefer to release into the ethers, the ashes, the wind or the earth— thank and let it go in that space, rather than take home. I do however, prefer it to be in home if it falls within your first 40 days of your postpartum window to ensure safety of your body.
How long is the ritual?
As healers, intuatives, medicine women, mothers mothering, guides & ceremonalists - this is part of our purpose work. Time of those witnessing and being witnessed is absolutely honored but we work with the space to let it unravel the way it needs to. Although I do have time limitations, there is space to bleed over the blurry lines for integration to unfold the way it needs. This ceremony is curated specially for the woman being witnessed every body holds their bones differently, every woman's story & journey is unique. It’s important to create and hold sacred space. It’s important to feel whole & complete. It’s important to honor the integration. The rebirth.
